One of the ways that Bungie could make the return of these seasonal Exotic weapon missions even more exciting is by adding a dedicated playlist for them on a weekly rotation like Nightfalls. This would allow players to easily access these missions and tackle them at their leisure without worry of content being time-gated and subsequently vaulted. The playlist could be situated between Nightfalls and Dungeons in terms of initial PvE content difficulty too, and with matchmaking, the Exotic mission playlist would be a fun alternative between replaying other PvE content in Destiny 2.

The Upcoming Lightfall Expansion’s LFG Feature Will Help Players Who Missed Out
With the Lightfall expansion’s “Looking For Group” feature for everyone, more people can easily find others to do all sorts of activities together. Since players need to bring two other friends to complete Exotic missions, having matchmaking via an LFG function would solve the issue for players that potentially stopped them from initially trying Exotic missions. However, Bungie’s decision to begin including seasonal mods that buff solo players when they are the only member of their fireteam is a good start at empowering those that don’t have many friends online regularly.
Another way that the return of these Exotic weapon missions could be enhanced is by expanding the exotic rewards available for completing them. While the missions would still reward players with the Exotic weapons they are tied to, there could also be an extended chance to obtain the Exotic’s catalysts or create new catalysts for said Exotic guns. Revision Zero has shown having multiple catalysts can make for greater build customization and would be a neat addition to other Exotic mission guns.
Revised Loot Pools and Enemy Encounters Could Make Exotic Missions Even Better
The expanded rewards of Exotic missions could also incorporate patterned red box guns from previous seasons for players to collect and unlock more of Destiny 2’s craftable Legendary weapons. It could be an easy addition to the reward pool with how Exotic missions have been tied to particular seasons and seasonal loot. The harder difficulties could also include Adept versions of guns in its loot pool with a higher chance at rare rolls and multiple perks available to choose from on the fly.
Additionally, if players want even more challenge, extra tricky variants of said missions could be introduced that bring in champions and other challenging enemies. This could include the new Tormentor encounters coming in Lightfall; they could appear occasionally or even randomly in Exotic missions for that extra unpredictable element. Alternatively, the formidable Lightbearing Hive encounters from the Witch Queen expansion could further boost difficulty and variety in much the same way.
The return of the Exotic weapon missions in Destiny 2 would be a highly anticipated event for many players, especially for those that missed out early on. By adding a dedicated playlist, expanding the rewards available, and scaling the difficulty with new options and encounters, Bungie could make Exotic missions an even better experience for many.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
