But how exactly does CyberPowerPC’s Kinetic Series chassis work, and will it really keep your PC cool?

What Is the Kinetic Series Case?

The Kinetic Series case was unveiled by CyberPowerPC at CES 2022 and has a fairly minimal design other than its main feature: the 18 adaptive, individually controlled vents. This PC case is designed to improve performance by opening and closing the vents depending on the internal temperature of the desktop.

It designed this case based on “Kinetic Architecture,” which allows different parts of a building to move. This form of architecture is used for aesthetics but can also help the structure better respond to environmental conditions.

CyberPowerPC’s press release states: “[we] hope that this design can create an effervescence of creativity throughout the industry that fundamentally changes our way of thinking about design.” So, the Kinetic Series chassis is designed for performance but is also designed to spark more creative PC case designs in the future.

How Does the Kinetic Series PC Case Work?

Each of the 18 vents are controlled individually and adapt based on the internal temperature of your PC.

Rather than adding more airflow, CyberPowerPC wanted to design a case that dynamically provides the appropriate airflow based on the situation. Running programs that are more demanding on the GPU and CPU, such as gaming at high resolution or editing high-quality video, will open up more vents and will continue to adapt based on your PC’s performance.

When the ambient temperature is high, the vents contract to bring in more air. When your PC temperature is low, the vents expand to reduce airflow, noise, as well as dust buildup. CyberPowerPC says the design is not simply to provide vents that open and close on their own but to adapt individually based on a single degree of temperature change. The chassis does this by reading your computer’s temperature sensors every five seconds.

Will the Kinetic Case Improve PC Performance?

So far, it’s up in the air as to how much this case will really improve performance and your PC’s thermals versus a case that gives maximum airflow all of the time. An interesting argument for this case is that the vents can prevent more dust buildup than a case with larger vents that are open all the time, potentially increasing the longevity of your computer parts.

The vents may also help reduce noise, so your PC is as quiet as possible during times where it does not need maximum airflow.

Will This Breathing PC Case Catch On?

Once journalists from the tech world get their hands on the new Kinetic Series Case, the general public will get a much better idea if it’s the right fit for their gaming setup.

CyberPowerPC stated that this is the first generation of its Kinetic Series Case, which means if the case becomes popular, the company will develop and release improved designs that will do an even better job at improving desktop thermals. It also stated that this design was meant to show the rest of the industry what’s really possible. If this design catches on, it will be exciting to see what other companies have up their sleeves in the future for intelligent desktop design.
